Mommy, I want to sleep..

In place of the SCKLM, I did something equally rewarding. I ran with an old buddy I have not seen since our wedding 2005 but effectively, have not seen since we all graduated together in the early 90s. We were a 3+1 person running club then, Sunday afternoon regulars at MacRitchie, literally ran rain or shine (because I remember we did a few runs in the rain!!). We've drifted apart but I am hoping we continue to see and run with each other more often now. At least I am no longer the laggard (I think) to them as I was then. Today, we did a 4k+ somewhere along Simei.

I called Nisa after that to find out about the rest of her day after the SCKLM. She had brought Jamie to see the "Transformers" - his very first show! He sat and watched, had popcorn and somewhere in the middle, he said "Mommy, I want to sleep.." and drifted off. I hardly hear him say that to me because we are always playing when I am up home for the weekend but it really cuts to know I am missing many significant moments of his life. I did not see him taking his first steps (away in Sweden negotiating a transaction), high fever cum admission into SJMC cum infusion (the nurse told Nisa - "Kak, you better wait outside and not see this") where he came out whimpering, and his first trip to the movies, his first long distance trip (to South Africa no less), him seeing penguines (at SA) etc. It really kills me; and I think he only drifted off to sleep in my arms once....

To Jamie : when you are older and are reading this, you will know Daddy means it everytime Daddy says he loves you a lot..

But we do have a lot of fun. Our current favourite games are (i) "Zhanng" - this is the sound of the light sabre being unsheath. He's darth vader and I'm skywalker; (ii) "Hidding" - we both crawl under the blankets and try to surprise Nisa as she walks into the room; (iii) "Toing-toing" - he jumps on the bed, with me lifting him up as high as possible. These games change from week to week and we both look forward to new games all the time. The games bring joy to him, and memories for me through the week until I see my family again during the weekend.

He's sleeping now and, God willing, he'll sleep through the night, giving Nisa some time to herself.

  1. This blogging thing is getting addictive. I wanted to sleep early coz I've to arrive at the US embassy tomorrow at 8 am, but told myself I must read and comment on your latest blog. Nevermind hon, we'll be together soon. Then you get to be with Jamie 24/7.

  2. Jamie and I got our U.S. visas!!! Hurrah!!! Our passports will be ready for collection tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Wisma MCA (have to find out where this building is) and not at the embassy itself.

It was a funny story this moning. My interview time was 8.20 a.m. and I was suppossed to report at the embassy gate at 8.10 a.m. But as usual I was late (blame it on the awful KL morning traffic). After illegally parking somewhere near the embassy outside some rich bloke's house, I ran towards the embassy as fast as my high heel shoes could carry me whilst totally ignoring this "pak guard's" plea for me to move my car away from his master's mansion (quote: "puan puan tolong jangan park kereta di sini", unquote).

When I got to the embassy gate at 8.35 a.m. (I was 15 mins late!), there were so many people queuing up and I panicked. Have I missed my interview slot? Were these other people waiting for their interviews? Theirs must be after 8.20 a.m. coz after all that 8.20 slot was supposed to be mine. So guess what I did. I pushed and shoved my way to the front of the queue and before the Ah Soh in front of me who was first in line could barely opened her mouth to object, I blocked her and told the lady security guard that I was very late for my interview and she gave me a security pass ahead of the Ah Soh and asked me to queue up to go into the what they call the "Chancery". So all this time the blur me thought I did nothing wrong until a girl in front of me left the queue momentarily and walked up to one of the many security guards there and told him that something must be done about people who jumped queue. She must have meant me as a culprit. Yikes!

When the Ah Soh finally got her security pass, she filed in line but of course this time she was behind me meaning I would naturally get to be interviewed before her. You know what she did? She said somthing in Chinese to her daughter who was with her, glared at me and elbowed me sharply from behind but cleverly making it look as if she did not do it on purpose. I didn't react coz at the time I realised then that I had indeed cut queue. Guilty as charged!

Anyways, there were hundreds of people I guess who were slotted for the 8.20 slot. How could I even think that I was so special to get a dedicated time slot all to myself? Silly me. I was no. A68 but there were other categories of visas so there were weird huge numbers like no. C707 etc. So that explains the long wait. I finally got interviewed at about 1.30 p.m. and thank god, it was a breeze. The American white guy was very pleasant. He only asked some simple questions and didn't even ask for any supporting docs which I had carted to the embassy. I have to be kiasu-ly prepared, right, just in case? So he granted Jamie and me our visas and bade me farewell. And that was it!

Sorry hon for the long comment. At the rate I'm going, maybe I should start my own blog too!
